Oral health care

Contact information of dental clinics

The oral health care unit is responsible for the oral health care services for prisoners in Finland. The services include both first aid services and overall care. Based on the principle of normality, prisoners are provided with both oral health examinations and other necessary treatment, including preventive care. It may not be possible to complete the treatment during the person’s imprisonment if this is short in duration. If the personnel is absent, a nurse from the outpatient clinic may refer a prisoner to first aid care in public dental care.

The dental clinics are located in connection with outpatient clinics in Helsinki, Vantaa, Turku, Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna, Kylmäkoski, Mikkeli, Kuopio, Sukeva, Pyhäselkä and Pelso. In Vaasa, the services are provided in the facilities of the city’s health care centre.

The oral health care employs dentists, dental nurses and oral hygienists in public positions and as hired employees.
